Hitchy feet

Recently I embarked on my first ever hitchhiking trip - travelling from Wellington to Auckland and back again with my boyfriend Chris, who's a total pro. One of the sweetest trips of my life - some great company and bloody good luck with rides. We got picked up so much that we ran ahead of schedule and had time to stop for coffee on the way back down. It's such a hard life! The first photo was taken on the shore of Lake Taupo on the way up.

Everyone likes photos of teacups.

Not the most original (from my understanding it's intensely trendy to photograph tea and cake these days), but some cute shots from my friend's 21st - a tea party at night, with food and music inside, and a fire in the brazier outside - brilliant!

What do you think?

Candid as shot of my friends Steve (the filmmaker I mentioned in a previous post) and Sharlene, at the Greenhaus' Winter Soiree. Aw, you guys!

Not the moonshine you're thinking of...

Shot of the new spring moon over the town belt, Wellington.

Kids again.

It seems I can't escape jobs that involve children - I'm not complaining, it's brilliant! These are some shots from a holiday programme that I help run in Newtown. Turns out making and decorating gingerbread men biscuits can keep kids (and leaders) occupied for hours!

Nights in Trinidad

'Twas but a dream.

This is a shot from a short film I helped a friend of mine to create a couple of months ago - it's completely made up of still photography, and put together almost like a stop-motion. The film was titled 'Goodnight Mr. Flower' and told the story of a young man rendered permanently asleep, and consequently forced to dream about life instead of live it. And no, it's not an Inception spin-off!
(Thanks to Steve for having me on the, admittedly quite small crew, and to Caleb, Cathy, Sharlene, Nate-Dogg, and Phil for letting me photograph them!)

Teacher aiding is cool!

I was, for a short while, a teacher aide for a local school - I was assigned specifically to one little boy who kept me well on my toes for the six weeks I was there. I brought my camera to school for the last day of term (the school does away with class and a sport/activities day instead) and - crossing my fingers - let him take photos. I especially liked this cute shot he took of one of his friends - budding portraiter in the making?

Baobab Roots open mic night, Newtown

The wonderful Baobab cafe hosts an open mic night on the first Thursday of every month - it's an eclectic mix of the slightly awkward to stunningly beautiful, and every kind of awesome in between. My lens fogged up completely, so I didn't manage to get many shots as it spent most of the night on the coffee machine drying out! I'm something of a regular (ish) at these shows, so I'll be uploading pictures of future ones to accompany these here. Should be coolbeans (coffee beans, that is)!

I'll be more organised this time, I promise!

Tēnā koutou! Having been away from the Burg for a considerable amount of time now, I've had a while to think about how I could do things a bit differently. Firstly, I will make a concerted effort to actually write a little bit more, a) so that I get better at it, and b) because I know you would all just LOVE to be regaled with tales of my life and times! Secondly, I am investgating different ways of 'filing' my photography, so I can keep track of what I'm documenting most and what needs work on. Also so that you can just jump to the categories that you want - mean!
In the meantime, I'll post some shots from the last three months for your slightly-less-organised perusal.
Enjoy/critique/eat cake.

Ka kite!

Burning things in wintertime...

Waxing lyrical.

Getting a little bit abstract, too. Cabin fever?

Cuba Street Night Markets

Recently discovered some photographs I took at the Cuba Street Night Markets, Wellington. They ended in February or March (I can't remember) along with summer. Good food, great coffee, and super-tasty stalls... Can't wait for next year...

So. It begins.

So I've mainly created this blog because I think that they make photos look better.
If I'm wrong, please don't correct me...
